Annual research symposium

Whitireia and WelTec hold an annual research symposium that brings together staff from both institutions as well as other tertiary providers

The next symposium is being held at the WelTec Petone campus, Thursday 22nd November 2018. The theme is 'Knowledge Through Diversity'.

WWOPRS 2017: November

Whitireia and WelTec were now joined by the Open Polytechnic as official co-hosts, creating a triumvirate of research for the latest installment of the annual research symposium. The theme was Innovating for Industry & Community and the symposium was held on Thursday 23 November 2017 at the Whitireia Porirua campus. In addition to presentations from the three host institutions, the symposium welcomed presenters from Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand.

WWRS 2017​: February

The 2016 Whitireia and WelTec Research Symposium was rescheduled as a result of the Wellington earthquakes and was held on 3 February 2017 at the WelTec Petone campus. Subtitled Enriching the Future, the symposium featured 53 presenters and exhibitions, with researchers from Whitireia and WelTec being joined by their colleagues from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, Manukau Institute of Technology and Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

WWRS 2015​​

In 2015, researchers from Whitireia, WelTec and the Open Polytechnic were joined by presenters from Manukau Institute of Technology, Waiariki Institute of Technology, Tai Poutini Polytechnic, Otago Polytechnic and Southern Institute of Technology. The theme was Emerging Enquiry, with Professor Ken Udas from the University of Southern Queensland as keynote speaker.

WWRS 2014​​

In 2014, researchers from Whitireia and WelTec presented at the WelTec Petone campus. The theme was Strengthening Relationships and Dr Mark Stagg of the Royal Society of New Zealand provided the keynote address Aspiration and Inspirational Research Funding and the Royal Society.

WWRS 2013

2013 was the first Joint WelTec Whitireia Research Symposium, providing staff an opportunity to collaborate and learn more about the work of colleagues across both institutes. The joint Symposium was implemented at the start of the strategic partnership of WelTec and Whitireia. 

The theme was Making Connections with keynote speakers Professor Dennis Robinson and Dr Fiona Beals.
