Iwi partnership

Te Whare Wānanga o te Awakairangi – the Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) has a long-standing relationship with Te Ātiawa.

We work together to help our students achieve their goals and get into the workforce.

Te Ātiawa established the Tamaiti Whangai student support team with WelTec, which works to ensure the success of Māori students. Our Māori student mentors support students in their study or training, as well helping with any other issues.

Orientation

WelTec strongly supports the vision of Te Ātiawa for Māori to achieve their career goals.

In 2008 WelTec and Te Ātiawa signed a memorandum of understanding, a partnership agreement that is renewed every two years. WelTec also has an agreement with Waiwhetu Marae, where we hold our Māori student orientation.

An iwi advisory group, Ātiawanuitonu, provides advice to the Council of WelTec on iwi aspirations and plans.
