
WelTec’s New Hospitality Facilities – Opening 2012

WelTec’s award-winning School of Hospitality is joining forces with the internationally renowned Le Cordon Bleu.
Located in the heart of the Wellington CBD our modern facilities are being designed with both the training of students and industry professionals in mind.
The School will have highly trained and qualified lecturers, purpose built kitchens and a unique demonstration kitchen/lecture theatre. Hands-on industry experience for students will continue to be an integral part of WelTec hospitality programmes.
When is the school opening?
The building is scheduled to open in September 2012. Until then WelTec’s courses will be run from our Petone and Church Street campuses.
Where is the school located?
Our new school will be located in the heart of Wellington - on a large corner block of Lower Cuba Street and Manners Street in Wellington. It will be central to Wellington’s Cuba Quarter, nearby Civic Square, restaurants and entertainment venues.
What is the connection with Le Cordon Bleu?
WelTec School of Hospitality will be co-located with Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand. Each organisation will offer its own unique highly sought after programmes . There will be common areas for students and an on-site restaurant.
The interaction of WelTec and Le Cordon Bleu students will create a vibrant and exciting campus in a stand-out building which will no doubt become one of Wellington’s icons.
How will industry benefit?
The new facilitates provide an opportunity for WelTec to continue to work with the capital’s thriving hospitality industry.
At WelTec we see our school as the industry’s school. We will be seeking to increase the industry presence in our courses, through the use of industry professionals to help assess our students’ skills, providing real work environments for students to learn in, and providing mentoring and practicum placements for our Graduate Diploma in Event Management interns.
WelTec will also be providing regular up-skilling events for our hospitality industry partners, and hope that they will share our vision of the new WelTec Hospitality School as a resource for all of the hospitality industry.
What is the building like?
The new building will be state of the art, purpose built, and of the very highest quality. The brand-new facilities include a demonstration kitchen-lecture theatre, new kitchens, library, changing facilities, classrooms and an on-site student run restaurant.
