Create. Innovate. Engineer.
Our students like our engineering degrees and diplomas because they're a good combination of theory and practical work. We’ve partnered with employers to develop our programmes so you'll learn just what you need to know for the job.
You’ll learn in modern workshops with the latest technology – we’ve just spent $3 million upgrading our engineering facilities.
Gain practical skills that are in demand
WelTec offers a practical option for studying engineering. You get to build real solutions, models and applications. You’ll get opportunities to engage with employers and work on actual projects.
Engineering skills are in high demand globally so now is a great time to enter this exciting and rewarding career. As the world around us gets more complex, the demand for good engineers will only increase.
Get qualified faster
At WelTec, you can get stuck in, get some skills and get straight out to the workforce. You'll get a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEng Tech) degree in only three years and national diplomas in two.
Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ) research shows that for engineering graduates with a year’s work experience, BEng Tech graduates earn up to ten per cent more than university engineering graduates. The higher salary is credited to the increased competition for engineering technology graduates and their practical experience with employers.
You'll learn exactly what the industry needs
We work with employers and industry to make sure you’re learning exactly what you need.
WelTec has longstanding and excellent relationships with local engineering firms and offers an excellent alternative to a purely academic study of engineering.
You’ll learn from tutors who are incredibly supportive as well as knowledgeable. They know why something is done a particular way, the reasons for it and the physics behind it. You'll benefit from all that real-world knowledge.
Our BEng Tech students have won national recognition including beating out university candidates to win the IPENZ Ray Meyer medal for Excellence in Student Design for both 2013 and 2014.
Use the latest technology
Our range of specialist equipment includes a mechatronics production and automation lab, visualisation and realisation (manufacturing) equipment, CNC 4-axis machining centre, geotech and fluids lab, and Computer Aided Design labs.
We use RoboDK in the mechatronics segment of our Bachelor of Engineering Technology programme.
WelTec’s partnered with local employers to offer scholarships that could help fund your study:
- BECA Engineering Scholarships
- Spencer Holmes Limited and Hutt City Council Engineering Scholarships
- KiwiRail and Hutt City Council Engineering Scholarships
- Hutt City Council Māori and Pasifika Engineering Scholarships
- Hutt City Council and KiwiRail Women in Engineering Scholarship
