WelTec offers four full-time General English Language courses (Stage 2 - Stage 5) which will help you improve your English communication so that you can live and work successfully in New Zealand.
The four stages are from stage two - which is suitable if you have little English, through to stage five - which is suitable if you can initiate and hold a conversation on unfamiliar topics and can read complex texts.
The enrolment process

Complete an enrolment form.

Supply evidence of permanent residence or citizenship or refugee status* verified copies or bring orginals to the Information Centre located in the Student Hub, Petone Campus to be verified.

Our ESOL department will contact you and invite you to come in for an assessment of your English language skills (Grammar - 30 minutes, Writing - 20 minutes and Speaking/Listening Interview 10-15 minutes).

Once we have assessed your level of English we will send you a letter to inform you of your acceptance (or non-acceptance) into one of our ESOL programmes and which level of ESOL study is right for you.

Pay fees - once you have paid your fees you will receive a letter to confirm your enrolment.

Entry requirements
Entry to the course is based on an assessment of your listening, grammar, writing and speaking. These courses are open to you if you are:
- A person from a non-English speaking background, and either
- A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident or
- A holder of a study visa.
