The Certificate in Gambling and other Impulse Control Disorders is designed to provide you with a broad understanding and practical knowledge of the similarities and differences between addictive behaviours and gambling and other impulse control disorders. This course is designed for clinicians working in the alcohol and drug or gambling fields who wish to gain further knowledge of gambling and other impulse disorders and for those wishing to enter the gambling field.
As a graduate, you will have the skills and knowledge to:
- Identify the similarities and differences between working with clients presenting with alcohol and other drug issues and clients presenting with gambling or other impulse control disorders
- Explain the screening and assessment approaches and treatment plans used with clients who present with gambling and other impulse control disorders
- Analyse the key evidence based interventions used with clients who present with gambling and other impulse control disorders
- Examine the biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of gambling and other impulse control disorders
- Undertake a motivational interviewing session

Entry requirements
42 credits at NCEA level 3, including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 in each of three subjects, or an equivalent qualification, or evidence the ability to achieve within the programme.
For applicants who have English as a second language, a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent is required.
All applicants will be invited to attend an interview. The interview will provide the opportunity for you to demonstrate appropriate life experience and your likelihood of success on the programme.
