Steve Marshall
Head of School, Health Services
Steve Marshall has worked in the mental health /addictions sector for over twenty years. During that time he has held positions working in psychiatric hospitals and on mental health crisis and assessment treatment teams before moving more fully into the addiction field.
Steve has a Masters degree in Health Sciences at Otago University with a thesis topic of; Depressed Patients’ experience of cannabis use. Previous to working in education, Steve was Team Leader for the Wairarapa methadone programme and has also worked at CADS Wellington on the opioid substitution team. His key areas of focus includes injecting drug users, cannabis dependence and major depression.

Deirdre Richardson
Lecturer, Christchurch
Deirdre has a Masters in Psychology hons and qualifications in Counselling and Clinical Supervision. She has worked in clinical roles in the Alcohol and Drug, Youth and Mental Health areas, having worked in helping services since 1987.
Deirdre spent most of the 1990's working in London and since her return has held the position of Clinical Director of Lifeline Christchurch for 5 years, has tutored at the University of Canterbury and held her position as Lecturer for WelTec's Bachelor of Alcohol and Drug Studies Degree since January 2004, becoming a Senior Lecturer in January 2006.
She has currently completing her PhD in the area of co-existing disorders.

Jan Davy
Lecturer, Auckland
Jan has a long history working in health - as an Occupational Therapist, a Psychologist in the Mental Health Services, and in more recent years - as an Alcohol and Drug clinician.
She has a strong interest in the area of co-existing mental health and substance use condtions, and in frameworks which optimise therapeutic outcomes for those clients unable to well utilise services.

Annabel Prescott
Senior Lecturer, Auckland
Annabel Prescott has been working with young people in various roles for the last 15 years and has specialised in working with youth who have alcohol and drug issues and in youth health. She has experience working with young people in a variety of different settings including clinical and non-clinical settings and is passionate about advocating with young people and implementing principles of youth development. Annabel is actively engaged with research having completed her Masters she is now a PhD scholar at the University of Auckland researching school drug policy.

Mirjana Vilke
Senior Lecturer, Wellington
Mirjana is a senior lecturer, and has been with the Alcohol and Drug Studies since 1996. Prior to that she had worked as a clinical psychologist and an educator in the fields of alcohol and other drugs assessment and treatment, dual diagnosis and secondary and tertiary education.
Her research interests include assessment and treatment issues of young people who are abusing drugs, focusing more specifically on cognitive-behaviour interventions.

Paul Schreuder
Senior Lecturer, Wellington
Paul has been a lecturer in an Alcohol and Drug studies for the past ten years. His interests are in Gambling Cognitive behaviour therapy, logotherapy and narrative therapy.
This year Paul completes his post graduate studies at Waikato University. He has an MA Psych and a BA Soc Sci from Massey University. He has completed certificates in REBT Melbourne and New York.

Klare Braye
Lecturer, Wellington
Klare has worked in the Alcohol and other Drug and mental health fields for over 16 years. This has been in a variety of settings and roles, most recently as counsellor and trainer. She is an accredited member of both NZAC and DAPAANZ and is currently completing her Masters Thesis.

Tony Carton
Senior Lecturer, Auckland
Tony delivers Alcohol and Drug modules in Auckland and various other delivery locations across New Zealand. Originally from Ireland he has over twenty years experience in the field of A&D as well as general counselling experience in New Zealand and Ireland. Tony has a particular interest in sociological insights in the substance abuse field, and recently completed a thesis on a Foucaultan critique of Motivational Interviewing.

Gayle McGarry
Lecturer, Wellington
Gayle has been an Alcohol and Drug practitioner for eight years, with clinical experience and qualifcations in occupational therapy and Alcohol and Drug Studies.

Paula Foreman

Paula's professional background and training was initially as a Community Psychologist. She has over 20 years experience in the education and professional development of practitioners working with vulnerable client groups. She also has direct experience in the supervision of practitioners in the health and social services sectors. As a professional/clinical supervisor she also utilises a variety of approaches including client-centered and strengths-based approaches.

Justine Te Moananui
Lecturer, Wellington
Justine Te Moananui is descendent from Ngati Tamatera and Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairoa. She has been working in the social services and education field for the last 10 years and has a passion towards improving Iwi Maori educational success. Justine is a co-tutor for the Treaty of Waitangi and Whakaruruhau courses whilst undertaking a research project regarding Maori pedagogies and how they can be applied to marae-based education programmes. She has presented on an international stage regarding Maori models of practice, within the field of social services as well as organisations.
