If you want to start a career in the painting and decorating industry then the Certificate in Pre-Trade Painting is for you. Taught in purpose-built painting workshops, this programme is designed to form the foundation for a fantastic career in the industry. 

Upon completion of the Certificate in Pre-Trade Painting, you may progress on towards the National Certificate in Painting. This programme will allow you to enter straight into stage two of the National Certificate.

  • Workshop health and safety
  • Surface preparation 
  • First Aid 
  • Brush and roller applications 
  • Light scaffolding 
  • Industry work experience

Entry requirements
12 NCEA Level 1 credits each in literacy and numeracy or equivalent knowledge/experience. 

Applicants 20 years of age or older are welcome to apply.

For applicants who have English as a second language, a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent is required.

Where will it take me?
Apprenticeship or employment in painting, decorating, specialist coatings, interior design and décor, colour consultancy, self-employed tradesperson, retail/sales representatives, specialist coatings applicator or industry instructor. 

You may progress on to the Certificate in Pre-Trade Decorating upon completion of this course.
