Start your career in painting with the Certificate in Pre-Trade Painting (Level 2). You will gain skills in scaffolding, surface preparation, paint application, planning and organisation, customer service and related introductory skills. Learning in purpose-built workshops, you will work on practical projects to learn how to complete a job to the highest standard.
Designed to form the foundation of your career in painting, you can develop your skills further with the Certificate in Pre-Trade Decorating. If you are interested in an apprenticeship then this programme can help you to get started.

Entry requirements
To enter this programme you will need to achieve the literacy and numeracy requirements for NCEA Level 1 with a minimum of 8 credits in literacy and 8 credits in numeracy.
If English is your second language, a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent is required, with no less than 5.0 in reading and writing.
If you are 20 years of age or older at the time you start your studies, you are entitled to special admission to WelTec.
Where will it take me?
Apprenticeship or employment in painting, decorating, specialist coatings, interior design and décor, colour consultancy, self-employed tradesperson, retail/sales representatives, specialist coatings applicator or industry instructor.
You may progress on to the Certificate in Applied Decorating Skills upon completion of this course.
