The Certificate in Pre-Trade Carpentry is the place to start your career in carpentry. From residential to commercial construction, the pre-trade carpentry programme will provide you with a mix of theory and practical skills to get you started in the industry or for further work-based training towards the National Certificate in Carpentry. Successful students will complete 80% of the theory component of the National Certificate and undertake work on full-scale house construction in addition to workshop-based practical projects.

Entry requirements
12 NCEA Level 1 credits each in literacy and numeracy or equivalent knowledge/experience.
Applicants 20 years of age or older are welcome to apply.
For applicants who have English as a second language, a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent is required.
Where will it take me?
Graduates will have the opportunity to find employment on residential or commercial building sites. Having gained employment within the industry, graduates may enrol in the Carpentry Cadetship programme to complete the requirements of the National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4).
