Students starting this program in 2012 must complete the Practicum paper in the July 2012 Trimester since this will be the last time this paper will be offered.

If you are interested in taking your career to the next level then this qualification is for you. The Diploma in Applied Marketing is a six-course programme for students with work experience who want to enhance their career prospects, and for those students who are planning to be involved in marketing-related activities. The focus is on developing innovative solutions to the needs and wants of diverse groups. The programme has been structured to include a mix of knowledge-based and application-based components.

Students are required to take five compulsory courses, and one optional course.

The five compulsory courses are: 

Structure of the programme
The Diploma of Applied Marketing (Level 6) has a total of 120 credits and has been structured to include a mix of knowledge-based and application based components. A special topic has been included to allow students the flexibility to undertake study that recognises or supports the student's past, present or future work as marketers.

The Practicum is undertaken either as an employee or an independent consultant working on a project or projects in an organisation. The student may negotiate to work on an independent project for a new product or enterprise. The student will be required to submit a proposal for the Practicum (200 hours).

The practicum will be monitored over the 200-hour period and regular feedback will be provided. The participant will be accountable to a project sponsor at senior management level within the chosen organisation.

International Students
Note that international students should enrol in the March intake as full-time programmes are only offered in Trimester 1.

Entry requirements
If you are under 20 years of age, you must have 50 credits at NCEA level 2, plus a satisfactory standard of literacy in English or Te Reo Maori and numeracy in Mathematics or Pangarau or the equivalent.

If English is not your first language, you must also have an IELTS score of 6.0 (academic) or TOEFL score of 550.
 
If you do not meet the requirements specified, Special Entry may be granted where WelTec is satisfied that you are capable of undertaking this course of study.

Where will it take me?
You may find employment in marketing related roles including marketing support, coordination, promotions or analysis.
