Computing Made Easy (CME) is a range of free courses to help you build confidence in using your computer, useful computer applications, the Internet and email.  Each course is self-paced and self-directed, allowing you to progress through a workbook at your own pace with helpful tutors on hand to assist. With no fees, no hidden costs (workbooks are yours to keep free of charge), no assessments and no exams Computing Made Easy is an opportunity to take charge of your learning and make the most of your computer.

  • Using Windows XP & VISTA
    Learn how to use the Windows operating system to create, copy and move files. 

  • Keyboarding 
    Find your way around a keyboard using Typing Master.  

  • Word Processing 
    Learn how to create documents such as letters and CV's using Word.  

  • Spreadsheets 
    Learn to do your own budget using Excel.

  • Internet and Email 
    Communicate with friends and relatives using email and learn
    how to surf the World Wide Web.  

  • Power Point 
    Learn how to prepare presentations using PowerPoint  

  • Publisher 
    Learn how to do desktop publishing, creating letterheads, business cards, greeting cards and a newsletter using Publisher.  

  • MYOB
    Explore "Mind Your Own Business", an accounting package for small businesses and personal use. 

  • Access Database 
    Create and use a database to store, manipulate and retrieve information.  
     

How To Survive in a Digital World

  • Manage your own Digital Photos
    Learn how to download and save digital photos, perform simple editing functions, back up digital photos, create digital albums and print individual photos. 

  • Send and receive Instant Messages
    Learn how to download and install and IM (Instant Message) programme, send and receive Instant Messages, send abbreviated text (text speak rather than full speech) and create and use an online identity. 
       
  • Safety Online
    Protect your computer from the threat of hackers and viruses.
       
  • Advanced Email Techniques
    Learn how to block unwanted emails, attach and send files and more. 

 FAQs

Is it really free?
Yes the tuition, course materials and computer access is totally free. You will need to meet the costs of any additional printing that you choose to print.

How are the classes run?
Computing Made Easy (CME) is a self-paced, self-directed programme. Each course comes with a free workbook with clear instructions and diagram. Progress through the workbook at your own pace, with experienced tutors on hand to provide assistance. 

Can I choose which courses I want to take?
Yes, you choose which courses you want to take and how many you wish to take. We generally suggest that you enrol in at least five for the maximum flexibility, computer time and printing allowance.
Note: To qualify for the free computer courses you must be: 

  • Able to attend classes in Petone and Wellington
  • A New Zealand or Australian Citizen
  • 16 years or older 

How to enrol
To enrol in Computing Made Easy, all you need to do is complete the enrolment form and hand into a tutor at your first class.
