The Certificate in Automotive Technology offers a common first year of study, after which you may choose to specialise in Light Vehicle, Electrical & Electronics or Heavy Vehicle. Taught in WelTec's purpose-built automotive workshops including our unique Autotronics Lab, this programme is delivered three days per week with one day self directed study and one day work experience.
This certificate includes the City & Guilds Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and the City & Guilds Advanced Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Areas of specialisation
Entry requirements
NCEA Level 1 with 12 NCEA credits in literacy and 12 NCEA credits in numeracy (or higher), or demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills. This may include having to undertake a pre entry test.
Alternatively, applicants 20 years of age or older are welcome to apply.
For students whom English is their second language, an overall IELTS score of 5.5 is required.

Where will it take me?
Opportunities exist in New Zealand and overseas working as an automotive engineer, automotive electrical engineer, heavy automotive engineer or diesel engineer. You may also progress onto further study with the National Certificate in Motor Industry (Automotive Technical)(Level 5).
