The Youth Guarantee Scheme

Study for free for one year, full-time

Are you 16 or 17? Ready to move beyond school but still want to pick up some practical skills? Youth Guarantee is designed to provide you with access to qualifications at Level 1-3 on the National Qualifications Framework in tertiary education, and improve transitions between school, tertiary education and work.

Your studies will be focused on the key skills and knowledge required for your area of interest, and you’ll be equipped to go onto further study or enter into the workforce.

 
Is Youth Guarantee for me?

This programme is designed for students who:

• Are 16-17 years old at the start date of the programme
• Can be turning 18 years of age after programme start date
• Want to learn practical skills
• Want to enrol for full-time study for a year
• Feel that the secondary school environment is not for them
• Are new to tertiary study
• Are NZ citizens or permanent residents

How Does the Programme Work?
Student will be part of mainstream WelTec classes, and will be required to participate in the same way as regular WelTec students. As a Youth Guarantee student your fees will be paid, and you will have access to additional support services.

To qualify for the Youth Guarantee scheme, you need to study at Level 2 or 3 for a full year. This can be either one full year, or two half-year programmes.

Fees
Tuition is FREE for students studying on the Youth Guarantee scheme. Compulsory course-related costs will also be covered.

Because the programmes are free, you will not be eligible for Student Loans. You may be eligible for student allowances if you meet the eligibility requirements. Visit Studylink for more information.
