WelTec’s Award Winning Research & Development
Last night WelTec was announced as the winner of the Research and Development Category of the 2010 Westpac Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
The award caps off what has been a busy and successful few months for WelTec in R&D. In August WelTec launched their new service arm WelTec Connect, to make it even easier for the business community to understand and access the help available.
And recently, WelTec was proud to be the only Institute of Technology in New Zealand to be accredited by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology, as an R&D provider for their technology transfer voucher scheme, which is a new initiative to help businesses undertake research and development.
WelTec’s General Manager Business Development, Tim Allen accepted the award at last night’s function, and recognised WelTec’s links in the Hutt Valley Business Community: “We take a lot of pride in our Hutt Valley roots and in seeing Hutt Valley businesses that we’ve worked with take on the world and succeed internationally.”
“At WelTec we often say our walls are porous – with students going out of the classroom into businesses to learn, and industry coming into WelTec on a daily basis – so we speak the language of business, and the R&D work we do with businesses is a natural extension of that close interaction,” stated Tim.
During his acceptance speech Tim also acknowledged WelTec’s Faculty of Trades and Technology, the "engine room" of WelTec R&D, and in particular Paul Mather, the Director of Technology Development for WelTec’s Centre for Smart Products. “Paul is the ‘face’ of WelTec’s R&D operation and has developed it into what it is today,” states Tim.
